I have recently completed my Master of Design Methods degree at the Institute of Design in Chicago. I am interested in refining my design practice and exploring user research methodology to create compelling products and services. The following themes consistently surface in my work and concisely frame my approach to design.

Knowing People

To create things that resonate with people you have to get to know them. I am intrigued by how perceptions, values and beliefs motivate behavior. I am always exploring ways to genuinely know people and to honestly communicate that knowledge.

Making Meaning

To see what is obscure but in plain sight is at the heart of creativity. Connecting ideas that are superficially unrelated but fundamentally the same is at the heart of innovation. Both are accomplished through the balance of intuition and logic, empathy and reason. I bring a balanced approach, a willingness to experiment and a sense of humor to the task of transforming qualitative data into meaningful insight.

Comprehending Aesthetics

Aesthetics encompass everything that our senses take in, but they are not inherent to the phenomena we perceive. We bring aesthetic judgements to our perceptions, and thus what we perceive as aesthetically pleasing evolves with our own psychology. The interplay of psychology and aesthetics, and the effect of this complex exchange on consumer behavior, is perhaps what interests me most about design.
